Tipping performers and staff
Send a card tip to the event, a staff member, or the sound engineer in just a couple of taps — no account setup required on your end.
For: Fans
Tipping on NextSet takes a couple of taps. Pick who you want to tip, enter an amount, and pay by card — that's it. You never need to set up a bank account or connect any payment service to send a tip.
Who you can tip
Every event on NextSet offers up to three tip destinations:
| Option | Who gets it |
|---|---|
| The event | The venue pool — staff working the night |
| A staff member | A specific person at the door, bar, or stage |
| The sound engineer | The person running the board |
The tip destinations available depend on what the event organizer has turned on, so you may see one, two, or all three options on the night.
How to send a tip
- Open the event page on your phone or browser.
- Scroll to the Tip section (or tap the heart icon if you see one).
- Choose your recipient — the event, a staff member, or the sound engineer.
- Select a preset amount or type your own. Tips run from $1 to $500 CAD.
- Optionally add a short message, and tick Send anonymously if you'd prefer your name not to appear in venue reports.
- Tap Pay and complete the card payment.
Accepted payment methods include credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex), debit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay — anything Stripe supports on your device.
What happens to the money
NextSet keeps a 10% platform fee; the rest goes to the recipient. On a $10 tip, the recipient receives $9.
There is no payout setup for you as the tipper. The money leaves your card immediately and that's the end of your involvement.
Sending anonymously
When you tick Send anonymously, your name is hidden from any venue-side tip reports. The payment itself still processes normally — anonymity only affects how your identity appears in the venue's dashboard, not whether the tip goes through.
Common problems
The tip button isn't showing. The event organizer may not have tipping turned on, or tipping may not be available until the event is live. Try refreshing the page; if the event is listed as upcoming rather than live, tipping may open closer to show time.
My tip shows "pending" after I paid. The card payment is still confirming with your bank. Stripe typically completes this within a minute or two. The status will update to completed on its own — you don't need to do anything. If it stays pending for more than a few minutes, check that your card wasn't declined by your bank.
My card was declined. Try a different card or payment method. Some banks flag unusual charges — if yours has blocked it, a quick call to your bank or switching to Apple Pay / Google Pay usually resolves it immediately.
I want to cancel or get a refund. Tips are non-refundable once sent. If you believe there was an error, contact the venue directly or reach out to NextSet support at support@nextset.ca and we'll look into it.
I tipped anonymously but the venue can still see my message. When you send anonymously, your name is hidden in venue reports but any message you included is also hidden — the venue sees the tip amount and recipient, nothing else.
