Scene Credits and tokens
How to earn NEXT tokens by attending shows, where to check your balance, and how to redeem rewards like free drinks and merch.
For: Fans
Every time you show up to a live event, share something worth sharing, or bring a friend into the scene, NextSet rewards you. This article explains how NEXT tokens (also called Scene Credits) work — how you earn them, where to see your balance, and how to cash them in.
What are NEXT tokens?
NEXT tokens are NextSet's way of saying thanks for being part of the scene. You earn them automatically as you use the app. Once you have enough, you can trade them for real-world rewards: a free drink at the bar, a subscription month, or merch.
The exchange rate is simple: 100 NEXT = $1 CAD.
How to earn tokens
Most earning happens automatically — you don't need to do anything special. Just show up and engage.
| Action | Tokens earned |
|---|---|
| Check in at an event | 50 NEXT |
| Buy a ticket through NextSet | 25 NEXT |
| Vote in a live poll or audience interaction | 25 NEXT |
| Leave an event review | 15 NEXT |
| Share an event on social media | 20 NEXT |
| First event of the calendar month | 100 NEXT bonus |
| Attend 5 or more events in a month | 150 NEXT bonus |
| A friend signs up using your referral | 100 NEXT |
| That friend becomes a paid subscriber | 250 NEXT |
Fan Pro earns 10% more
If you have an active Fan Pro subscription, every token you earn is multiplied by 1.1 — a 10% bonus applied automatically. Your transaction history will show a note whenever the bonus kicks in.
Where to see your balance
Your token balance lives in your fan dashboard. Sign in, open your profile menu, and look for Scene Credits or Token Balance. You'll see:
- Your current spendable balance
- Your lifetime total earned
- A history of individual transactions — what you earned, when, and why
The balance updates within moments of each earning event. If you just checked in and it hasn't appeared yet, give it a few seconds and refresh the page.
Token levels
As you accumulate lifetime tokens, you move through tiers that show how committed to the scene you are:
| Level | Lifetime tokens needed |
|---|---|
| Bronze | Starting point |
| Silver | 500 |
| Gold | 2,000 |
| Platinum | 5,000 |
| Diamond | 10,000 |
Your level is based on total tokens ever earned, not your current spendable balance — so spending on rewards never drops your tier.
How to redeem rewards
Head to your fan dashboard and open the Redeem section. You'll see what's available at your current balance, with the token cost listed for each reward.
Drinks at the bar
Trading tokens for a free drink is the most popular redemption. Here's how it works:
- Open the redeem section in your fan dashboard and choose your drink type — beer, cocktail, or shot.
- Tap Redeem. A 6-character code and a QR code appear on your screen.
- Show the code or QR to the bartender or venue staff.
- The staff scans or enters the code to accept it. Your tokens are deducted, and the drink is yours.
All three drink types cost 3,000 NEXT (equivalent to $30 CAD). The venue receives credit for $20 of that; NextSet takes a small platform fee.
A code is only valid for about 5 minutes after you generate it, and the venue must accept it before it expires. Don't generate the code until you're standing at the bar.
Subscription months
You can use tokens to pay for your NextSet subscription:
- 1 month free — 1,000 NEXT
- 1 year free — 10,000 NEXT
Redeem from the subscription section of your account settings.
Merch
| Item | Token cost |
|---|---|
| Sticker | 500 NEXT |
| T-shirt | 5,000 NEXT |
Merch availability depends on what the venue or event has set up.
Feature unlocks (non-subscribers)
Not subscribed yet? You can temporarily unlock premium features using tokens:
| Feature | Cost | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Director controls (24-hour access) | 500 NEXT | 24 hours |
| Projector view (24-hour access) | 400 NEXT | 24 hours |
| Analytics (24-hour access) | 300 NEXT | 24 hours |
Common problems
My balance didn't update after I checked in. Token awards happen in the background right after the check-in is recorded. Give it a moment — if the page is still showing the old number after 30 seconds, do a full refresh. If it still hasn't appeared after a couple of minutes, try signing out and back in to force a fresh sync.
My redeem code stopped working before the staff scanned it. Drink redemption codes expire roughly 5 minutes after you generate them, and the venue must scan or accept the code before it expires. If your code timed out, go back to the redeem screen and generate a fresh one — then hand it over straight away while you're at the bar.
The venue staff says the code didn't work. The staff member needs to accept the code through the venue's NextSet interface. If they're new to it, have them open the venue dashboard and look for Redemptions. A manual code-entry field is there as a backup if the QR scan isn't working.
I don't see any rewards available. You may not have enough tokens yet for the rewards shown, or the venue may not have enabled drink redemptions for this event. Check the token cost column — if your balance is below the threshold, keep attending shows and you'll get there quickly.
My Fan Pro bonus isn't showing up. The 10% bonus is applied at the moment tokens are awarded, not as a separate line. Look at the description in your transaction history — it will say "+10% Fan Pro bonus" next to any earning event where the bonus was applied. If you recently subscribed to Fan Pro, allow a moment for the subscription to activate before the bonus kicks in.
